Quick Start Guide
How it Works
SoftBlock detects the attachment of storage media, intercepts the attachment, and presents (if possible) the user with a dialog asking how the media should be attached to the system. The user can cancel (i.e., not attach) the media, indicate the media should be attached read-write, or indicate the media should be attached read-only (default). Once this is completed, SoftBlock is no longer involved with that particular media, and the host Operating System handles the read-write or read-only enforcement.
SoftBlock has been tested to verify that:
- It allows writes to the filesystem, character device, or block device when media is attached read-write.
- It prevents writes to the filesystem, character device, and block device when media is attached read-only.
- The media is not in any way attached to the system when the attachment is cancelled.
